First: how to find the YouPoint page in settings
In the app, every permission has an “Open settings” button that takes you straight to the right place. If it didn't work:
- Open the phone's Settings (the gear icon).
- Tap “Apps”.
- Find YouPoint in the list and tap it.
This is the “YouPoint page” mentioned below. When you come back to YouPoint with the “Back” button, the app checks the result itself and ticks the step.
Connection
Notifications
Without them, “Where are you?” and “I need help” won't arrive until you open the app.
- A window appeared: tap “Allow”.
- No window, or you tapped “Don't allow”: YouPoint page → “Notifications” → turn on “Allow notifications”.
Location
- A window appeared: tap “While using the app” and make sure “Precise location” is on.
- No window: YouPoint page → “Permissions” → “Location” → “Allow only while using the app” → turn on “Use precise location”.
- Location is off on the whole phone: swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the Location icon so that it lights up.
Physical activity
Helps save battery: the phone knows when you're walking or driving.
- Window: “Allow”.
- Manually: YouPoint page → “Permissions” → “Physical activity” → “Allow”.
Car (for adults and elderly people)
Android asks: “Allow YouPoint to find, connect to and determine the relative position of nearby devices?” That's just what the system calls this permission. YouPoint only notices that the phone has connected to a car — it doesn't search for devices around you.
- Window: “Allow”.
- Manually: YouPoint page → “Permissions” → “Nearby devices” → “Allow”.
Phone call status
Android asks: “Allow YouPoint to make and manage phone calls?” YouPoint won't make calls — it only sees that a call is in progress. This is needed for scam protection.
- Window: “Allow”.
- Manually: YouPoint page → “Permissions” → “Phone” → “Allow”.
Microphone
Only on a child's or teen's phone, if “Sound around” is turned on in the family.
- Window: “While using the app”.
- Manually: YouPoint page → “Permissions” → “Microphone” → “Allow only while using the app”.
Background work
Without these permissions, the location only updates while YouPoint is open.
Location “all the time”
The “Location” permission must be on first. There's no window here — Android opens the page straight away.
- On the “Location access” page, choose “Allow all the time” and tap “Back”.
- Manually: YouPoint page → “Permissions” → “Location” → “Allow all the time”.
Don't let YouPoint sleep
Phones save battery by putting apps to sleep. YouPoint itself uses the battery sparingly.
- Window “Let app always run in background?”: “Allow”.
- Samsung: YouPoint page → “Battery” → “Unrestricted”. Also: Settings → “Battery” → “Background usage limits” → “Never sleeping apps” → “+” → YouPoint.
- Pixel: YouPoint page → “App battery usage” → “Unrestricted”.
- Xiaomi: YouPoint page → “Battery saver” → “No restrictions”; and in the same place turn on “Autostart”.
Alarms
Needed for medication and task reminders.
- On the “Alarms & reminders” page, turn on “Allow setting alarms and reminders”.
- Manually: YouPoint page → “Advanced” (or scroll down) → “Alarms & reminders”.
Full-screen notifications (Android 14 and newer)
So that medication reminders and SOS alarms appear on the whole screen.
- On the “Full screen notifications” page, turn on the switch next to YouPoint.
- Manually: Settings → “Apps” → “Special app access” → “Full screen notifications” → YouPoint.
Protection (a child's phone and scam protection)
Care service
Needed for scam protection, protection from uninstalling and child protection. It only sees the name of the open app and the website address — it doesn't store or send what's on the screen.
- On the “Accessibility” page, tap “Installed apps” (Samsung) or “Downloaded apps” (Pixel, Xiaomi).
- Tap “YouPoint: care service”.
- Turn on the switch and tap “Allow”.
Is the switch grey with “Restricted setting”? YouPoint page → the three dots ⋮ at the top right → “Allow restricted settings” → confirm with your fingerprint or PIN and repeat the steps.
Website filter (only on a child's phone)
- Window “Connection request”: tap “OK”. A key icon appears at the top — that's the filter. Only website address lookups go through it; the rest of the internet goes past.
- Didn't work (there's already another VPN on the phone)? On the same step, tap “Didn't work? Another way” and enter
family.adguard-dns.comin “Private DNS” → “Hostname” → “Save”.
Protection from uninstalling
- Window “Activate device admin app?”: scroll down → “Activate”.
- Manually: Settings → “Security and privacy” → “Other security settings” → “Device admin apps” → YouPoint → “Activate”.
Screen time
- On the “Usage access” page, tap YouPoint → turn on “Permit usage access”.
Notification counter
- On the “Notification access” page, tap YouPoint → turn it on → “Allow”. Android warns that the app “will be able to read notifications” — YouPoint only counts them.
Display over other apps
- On the “Display over other apps” page, tap YouPoint → turn on “Allow display over other apps”.
Not working?
You can skip a step with “Skip for now”. An adult in the family will see “Phone is missing settings” on the person's card, with these same steps, and can help. You can check everything at once any time: “Profile” → “Device status”.
